Understanding the procedures for importing dietary supplements will be necessary if your company wants to import some products like vitamins, ginseng, powdered milk, tonic ...

Do you know how these items have imported procedures?

In this article, ASC Logistics will share to help you answer that question.

First of all, to do the procedure, you need to understand what is dietary supplement? What products are called dietary supplements?

1. What is dietary supplement?

The concept given by the IMC states: "dietary supplement (TPCN) is a food used to support the function of many / many parts of the human body; have nutritional effects; to make the body comfortable, increase the resistance as well as reduce the risk of disease "

Immediately refer to the Ministry of Health's Circular 43/2014 / TT-BYT of November 24, 2014, on dietary supplement management.

This circular will show you what dietary supplements, food supplements, nutrition foods, health food is like, what kind of food products will belong to food groups.

2. Declaration of dietary supplements

To complete dietary supplement import procedures, you will first need to have a food publication with the Department of Food Safety - Ministry of Health. The announcement should be made before the goods arrive.

Whether the announcement of conformity or appropriate publication, the declaration of dietary supplement should be noted the following issues:

+ Business registration certificate of the food business or certificate of legal entity for organizations and individuals (copy certified by the organization or individual). Many businesses declare dietary supplements received the request for additional records: Produce business registration has the business of food business. So, to make the announcement you need to note this issue offline.

+ Certificate of Free Sale (CFS) issued by the exporting country, and legalization of consulate in Vietnam in that country. This is a very important document, not only documents need to be added on the online records but also many cases brought to see experts to compare. Of particular note here is that the content on CFS must be standard and the product name on the CFS and the product label of the same name on the publication must match.

+ Documentary evidence of utility. This document is not a catalog of products that are scientifically documented by an agency, which demonstrates the use of the product, and what component of the product it provides. Note that this document should be certified by an agency or organization.

+ Results of product testing at the competent authorities in Vietnam. This form is required when making food declarations. In fact, before submitting the dossier to the Department of Safety, publishers should bring samples for testing at competent state agencies in accordance with the criteria in the standard or based on the composition, purpose to publish appropriate indicators. Often the importer will have to import a sample shipment and confirm the samples to get samples for testing (again is another step to do before).

The reason I want you to note this issue when making the announcement because I have encountered many cases where test results fail. Does not meet the label, not in accordance with Vietnamese standards. So, keep in mind that you need to check your product for conformity and, if possible, ask the exporter to provide you with a test in their home country, so that you have a good base. job.

The above are some things to note for the disclosure of dietary supplements in particular and procedures for importing dietary supplements in general. Completion of the announcement is the first important step, and also a necessary condition for importing dietary supplements.

What are enough conditions?

That is the food safety inspection when the goods.

In addition to the usual customs dossier and the product declaration, the goods to be cleared from customs clearance must be taken one step further: food safety inspection.

3. Procedures for importing dietary supplements

This step will be performed when the item arrives at the port. The basic sequence is as follows:

1. To register for food hygiene and safety inspection at competent agencies such as Quatest 1 Center in Hanoi and Quatest 3 Technical Center for Standards and Quality , in HCMC); National Institute of Food Safety and Hygiene (Hanoi) ...

2. Declaration & transmission of customs declarations attached to the approved registration.

3. Customs clearance and warehousing (Find out how to carry out Customs procedures here).

4. The staff at the center have registered to check the store and take samples for inspection

5. After inspection, if results are reached, you submit additional results to Customs to clear the shipment. If the results do not meet the condolences, your shipment will not be cleared means you have to return the shipment. Nobody wants to fall into this situation, because it takes time and money.
